Head, Vehicle Solutions & Business Development, India & South Asia - UBER

Mr. Deepankar Tiwari, Head, Vehicle Solutions & Business Development, India & South Asia has been with UBER India since May 17 and is responsible for running the supply stream of UBER inclusive of strategic partnerships for India & South Asia.
Prior to current role, he spent 22 years with TATA Group. Post acquiring his Engineering Degree in Metallurgy & Material Science, began his career with the Tata Group joining as a management trainee with Tata Motors in their Commercial Vehicle division and worked in the areas of production, quality control & Ancillary development. He was selected to the Fast Track Executive selection scheme of Tata Group. This is a rigorous & multi stage internal talent selection program for identifying and developing future leadership of the Group. Post selection to this program, Deepankar spent a year being exposed to different operating companies across sectors and then spent a year at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad perusing a management program.

In the year 1999 as the Passenger Car Business was being set up at Tata Motors, he was part of the founding team for Car business and played a key role in the development & introduction of some of the most popular car brands from Tata Motors like the Indica, Indigo, and Tata Safari. Subsequently he headed the marketing, Sales & Servicing efforts for the passenger car business across geographies and nationally. Each of these roles entailed leading large teams, development & management of Distribution channels, engagements with government & regulatory bodies, institutional business, and in essence managing the entire business end to end with P&L responsibilities. He was part of the integration team, post the acquisition of Jaguar Land Rover, and in initializing JLR operations in India. He was also involved in negotiating the architecture of Tata Motors – FIAT joint venture, where in a JV was set up in India to produce Tata / Fiat products & use the Tata Dealership network for retail of Fiat products.

His last role at Tata’s was as Vice President, Public Policy & Business Development, at Tata Sons. In this role, he was part of the Tata Group Chairman’s office at Tata Sons, the Groups holding company, overseeing the public policy narrative for various Tata companies across diverse sectors such as Auto, Power, Aviation, Foods & Beverages, Retail, and Infrastructure. This included deep engagements, with Central & State Governments (both political executive & bureaucracy), regulatory bodies, and Sovereigns & Diplomatic representations in India, Industry bodies (FICCI, SIAM, CII etc.) & International Bodies like the World Bank, IFC etc. Given the Tata Groups presence, Deepankar led a focussed engagement with key states like Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, New Delhi & NCR region, Haryana,
He also sits on the boards of India- Canada Business Chamber (ICBC) & India Canada Innovation Council (ICIC).
